Gas prices continue decline

Southeast Missouri remains the home of some of the cheapest gasoline prices in the state. Compared with counties north of the Missouri River, Cape Girardeau County and its neighbors are experiencing prices up to 20 cents per gallon cheaper.

On a whole, the state’s average cost per gallon for regular and diesel fuel stands at $2.88 and $3.24, respectively. These are both below the comparative national averages per gallon of $3.22 and $3.59. Missouri still ranks within the 10 cheapest states nationwide for gasoline prices.

Bollinger: $2.91;

Cape Girardeau: $2.92;

Perry: $2.82;

Scott: $2.90.

Cape Girardeau: $2.82;

Jackson: $2.65 to $2.90;

Marble Hill: $2.99;

Perryville: $2.76 to $2.88;

Scott City: $2.79 to $2.99.

I question why gas in Jackson is 20+ cents less per gallon than Cape?

That's a good question right there .

It seems like most things are cheaper in Jackson then Cape .

Maybe because there aren't several walking trails or swimming pools or TIFs or other waste of taxes .

Or there's a real City Hall .

Dunno , but I'm glad I live in Jackson instead of Cape .

And gas in the Springfield/Joplin area is as much as 30-40 cents cheaper. Seems no one wants to explain "why" about Cape gas prices.

A friend posted that gas was $2.33.9/10 in Matthews last week. There seems to be a cartel in Cape based who on monopolizes the gas market.

FWIW, a couple of sites are out there where one can follow the wholesale price of gas, one being - https://markets.businessinsider.com/commodities/rbob-gasoline

While the current $2.00 per gallon quotes seem cheap, gots to remember the fuel tax (~$0.38 per gallon), plus the transportation costs from the selling hub to the station, plus the store operating and maintenance costs and profit margins, and other misc. expenses tacked on - federally-mandated detergent quantities and qualities, credit card fees, etc.

Not discounting possibilities for local 'cartel' premium price-fixing and the like, but offering a ballpark for trending the spread between the price leaving the wholesaler versus current prices paid at the pumps.

Still promoting the unpopular and "don't respect"ed opinion that if one doesn't like it, figure out the work-around whether being buying elsewhere or just buying less or something else.

Pain and discomfort are powerful motivators, but do gots to get up on the horse and off the dead (keister) and do more than just whine about it.
