On Sunday, organizers of the SEMO Labor Picnic welcomed around 500 people to Cape County Park North where Southeast Missouri union members and their families feasted on grilled food and enjoyed some friendly competition. JJ Lane, picnic chairman and business agent for the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, said the labor picnic has been a success since its inception in 2007. Portageville, Mo., native Ken Gullett has spent hundreds of hours inside and outside the classrooms at Southeast Missouri State University. Most of those hours have been in a police uniform, serving and protecting the campus community.
